Lucky Bamboo Care
|
The water needs to be changed every 1-2 weeks, and the water level should be above the roots. If the water where you live is heavily treated with chlorine or fluoride or contains a lot of salts, then the leaves may turn yellow or brown. For chlorine or fluoride issues, you can let the water stand in an open container for 24 hours before using it with the lucky bamboo. This allows the chlorine or fluoride to evaporate. For salt issues, you should use filtered or distilled water instead of tap.
Sunlight should be bright but indirect. Too much direct light will cause the leaves to burn while too little light will prevent growth and poor coloration. A higher dosage of indirect light will help it grow faster though. It is able to survive under artificial lighting as well.
Normal household temperatures no lower than 55°F are good for the lucky bamboo. It should be placed away from air conditioning/heating vents.
Although it isn’t necessary to feed the lucky bamboo, you can every couple of months if you want to help it grow. If there is no soil present, then the plant food needs to be diluted or else the roots will burn if the solution is too strong. Any standard water-soluble plant food is fine. Use approximately one-tenth the recommended dilution rate during each water change.
